We’re so excited to begin this new chapter in Key Stage 1! In Year 1, we provide a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child feels valued and ready to learn.

This year, your child will grow as a reader, writer, mathematician, and scientist and develop confidence, independence, and resilience along the way.

What We’re Learning

Our curriculum is rich, broad, and full of opportunities to explore and ask questions. Each half term, our learning is shaped around exciting topics and high-quality books that inspire curiosity and creativity. Some of the areas we’ll explore include:

• Phonics & Early Reading using Read Write Inc. Phonics

• Writing inspired by picture books, storytelling, and real-life experiences

• Maths focusing on number fluency, problem-solving, and reasoning

• Science with hands-on investigations and exploring the world around us

• Art & DT through drawing, making, and experimenting with materials

• History & Geography as we start to look at the world and our place in it

• RE following the Kapow scheme, encouraging thoughtful and respectful discussion

• PSHE to support friendships, feelings, and wellbeing

We also build in opportunities to learn outdoors, be creative, and follow the children’s interests.
