Caterpillars(Two-Year Old Unit)

Caterpillars room is the home of the youngest children at Willowcroft. The children are all 2 years old and can start the term after their second birthday.

Caterpillars is managed by Hayley Davies and supported by Claire Drake and Megan Lane.

In Caterpillars we focus on the PRIME areas of the EYFS. Providing opportunities for children to gain early childhood experiences such as making relationships, gaining independence and exploring new environments.

In Caterpillars we learn lots of new skills through playing and exploring. We love getting messy and being active whilst we learn. Staff offer a language rich environment, which encourages children to think critically about what they are doing.

We love sharing books and learning how to turn the pages carefully!

We get lots of opportunities to develop our fine motor skills and make our own marks.
We have plenty of opportunities to express ourselves and use our imagination

When it all gets too exciting and we are worn out, then we can always have a rest or cuddle!

Working in Partnership with parents is a key priority in Caterpillars. We a appreciate the apprehension that often comes with leaving your very young child for the first time. We are here to support you and will always have tissues on hand for both child and parent!

Working in Partnership includes supporting you in supporting your children. Sharing books, songs, talking through your daily routine and offering your child choices will all help in developing their communication skills. Below is a list of our daily group time songs (google will help you with the words!) and popular stories we share.

  • Mr Golden Sun
  • Animal Fair
  • Miss Polly had a dolly
  • Wind the bobbin up
  • Wheels on the bus
  • Clean up (the version Barney the Dinosaur sings)

  • Pip and Posy – Axel Scheffler
  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – Michael Rosen
  • The Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle
  • Toddle Waddle – Julia Donaldson
  • You Choose – Nick Sharrett

We will also work together with you to help develop your child’s independence. Learning to wash and dry hands, put on our own coats and use the potty are key elements of our daily routine and together we can further their self-help skills in preparation for Tadpoles.

We offer both private and funded places for your children and have three intakes a year, September, January and Easter.
