PE at Willowcroft Community School
Our aims for PE at Willowcroft are that children:
Coaches and staff at Willowcroft are looking to raise pupil’s achievement and promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development through well led, planned and assessed lessons. We aim to teach the whole child and endeavour to make connections, give them confidence, build their character, inspire their creativity, make them caring and compassionate and of course, competent when taking part in PE. We aim to offer an exciting, challenging and well structured environment in which they can discover all that is good about sport. The staff at Willowcroft believe that they offer a plethora of opportunities for pupils to take part in a range of sporting events or activities that promote the children's SMSC.
After School Clubs
Willowcroft run a number of high quality lunch time and after-school clubs which are led by both the coaches and the staff. These include;
Some of the clubs run continuously through the year and others are on a termly basis. This gives the children a chance to pick and choose what they would prefer to learn that term but also offers stability for those children who want progress or build on their skills.
If you are unsure on when your child participates in PE or if you have any questions regarding clubs, please see reception or your child's class teacher who will be happy to help.
Swimming at Willowcroft is available for all children in KS1 and KS2. The children will have 10, 30 minute swimming lessons with a qualified instructor each year (5 hours). Of these 10 sessions, 2 will be assessment lessons – at the beginning to see how well they swim, if at all, and the final session to check progress, so effectively they have 4 hours of swimming coaching. They do this each year equating to 20 hours swimming coaching during their primary education.
